Power Tools Guide
Safe use of handheld power tools at the Shed
Safety at KuShed is everyone’s responsibility. Before using any equipment, members are required to complete a general induction and sign the safety register. All incidents β however minor β must be reported to the Coordinator on duty. Personal protective equipment is available at the Shed and must be worn where indicated. If you’re unsure about anything, ask before you start.
π
Power Drills & Drivers
No induction required. Use the correct bit for the material. Start on a low clutch setting and increase as needed. Secure the workpiece before drilling.
πͺ
Jigsaw & Circular Saw
Demonstration recommended. Always clamp the workpiece. Let the blade reach full speed before cutting. Keep the cord clear of the cutting line.
π¨
Sanders & Grinders
No induction required for belt and orbital sanders. Wear dust mask and safety glasses. Keep fingers away from the sanding surface.
π
Checking Tools Before Use
Inspect the power cord for damage before every use. Check guards are in place. Never use a tool that feels or sounds wrong β report it.
π
Changing Blades & Bits
Always disconnect from power before changing any blade, bit, or attachment. Wait for all moving parts to stop completely before reaching in.

Reporting Faults
If a tool is faulty, damaged, or not performing correctly β tag it out of service immediately and notify the Coordinator. Never leave a faulty tool available for others to use.
This guide is being developed. Check back soon or ask the Coordinator on your next visit.
